It's over Swithun! Put that cloud down!

The reign of Saint Swithun is finished.

The 40 day tyranny of his weather curse is over.

Saint Bartholomew has taken the weather from his hands and now all bets are off.

He'll be back next year, but for now we can expect 10 months of unpredictable weather, unlike the last 40 days of course.

When October is warm do not watch the Horsemen dance...

In one of the most striking pieces of Black Meadow lore collected by Roger Mullins (who disappeared on the site known as Black Meadow on the North York Moors in 1972) is the myth of the Horsemen.

If October is warm for more than three consecutive nights then the horsemen will come and the horsemen will dance. The people of the surrounding villages will play instruments to aid the dance from their houses but will not venture to the field. For to watch them as they dance will mean oblivion.
