October 25th - Cobblers! Take a Break!

Hey shoemakers!

You work so hard.

Thankfully the heroic cobblers Saint Crispin and his unimaginatively named younger brother, Crispinian died in horrific martyrdom so you could put your feet up and have a little drink or two today.

Go on. Put your feet up. You've earned it.

For the rest of us non-cobblers mark this day by not bothering a cobbler. Maybe you could not wear a shoe  or two or just give your shoes a rest, perhaps don't tie those pesky laces.

Have fun!

October 18th - Feeling Horny? It's time for the Charlton Horn Fair!

At the Charlton Horn Fair you can dress as a king, as a Miller’s Wife or as a Miller (in which case don some horns you poor cuckhold) and celebrate King John tupping the Miller’s Wife by whipping women on the bottom with branches of furze and finishing the whole affair with a jolly orgy*!

* Orgies are optional and  liable to have the fair closed down (this happened in 1872).

October 11th - P*ss off mouse!

On Saint Canice's Day we remember how the great saint of Inchkenneth reprimanded seagulls for their naughtiness and crucially how he banished mice for nibbling his sandals.

So go on, tell a mouse to “piss off” today!

Interestingly you can also tell frogs to “bugger off” and badgers to “get lost”.

Seagulls can “do one”.

The Wyrd Kalendar Album - October Artist - Wyrdstone

Last year we prepared for the publication of the book Wyrd Kalendar...

This year we are making ready an album of  the same name...

This new album will contain 13 tracks - 12 of which will be related to the stories from the book and the month of the year. The album will be released by the very groovy Mega Dodo (who released Songs from the Black Meadow in 2016). All profits from the album will go to charity.

The artists have been given a month each, a copy of the linked story and Andy Paciorek's picture to give them a starting point and away they go!

We are very proud to reveal that the artist for October is psych-folk guitar wizard Wyrdstone  who has created a track based on the month of October and the story "The Field".

Wyrdstone is the work of multi-instrumentalist Clive Murrell.
Psych-folk guitar / ambient / drone sounds inspired by the beauty and myth that surrounds the English countryside.

His incredible music evokes a mythical landscape of mist, moors, trees and spirits hidden in the furrows and dells.

His first release Cuffern is a thing of real beauty and elegance. This was followed by the incredible Potemkin Village Fayre which The Active Listener described as "an album of rare creativity, beauty, wonder and emotional impact."

More information about the album and our other monthly artists will be released throughout 2018...

While you wait check out the wonder that is Potemkin Village Fayre.

When October is warm do not watch the Horsemen dance...

In one of the most striking pieces of Black Meadow lore collected by Roger Mullins (who disappeared on the site known as Black Meadow on the North York Moors in 1972) is the myth of the Horsemen.

If October is warm for more than three consecutive nights then the horsemen will come and the horsemen will dance. The people of the surrounding villages will play instruments to aid the dance from their houses but will not venture to the field. For to watch them as they dance will mean oblivion.

For more information on this visit the Black Meadow site here...

Columbo's Day

As everyone knows the 9th October is Columbo's Day.
This is a very important day for Americans so I thought it would be nice to make a nice poster.
